10 “guest bathroom” concierge items to have on hand

One thing is a given about summertime: There’s always a lot of entertaining going on! Whether you’ve got out of town guests for the weekend or your neighbors over for a barbeque, sometimes it can seem like your front door is constantly revolving!

The one room that always gets used when guests are over? The guest bathroom! One easy way to make sure you’re always ready for a girlfriend to stop by is to have a little concierge basket in your powder room. You’ve probably seen these at weddings or even in hotels and restaurants. Of course, if you’re reading (cool) progeny, you probably have kids. So we’ve assembled a concierge basket specifically with families (and moms) in mind!

Kleenex Hand Towels: Quick, easy to grab and no laundry. Let’s be honest — if you’re entertaining, laundry is the LAST thing you really want to do.

MD Moms Baby Silk wipes: Created by two moms (also pediatricians!) with organic aloe, ginger root extract, chamomile, comfey, marine silk and antioxidant vitamins E and B5. For baby or wiping make-up (really).

The Laundress’ Fabric Fresh Baby Scent: Chances are, whether your friend is coming for an afternoon play date or staying the weekend, a mom’s clothes (especially a mom with baby/toddler/preschooler) can always benefit from a little fresh, non-toxic anti-bacterial freshening spray. So can the kiddo’s clothes. Spit up stench be gone.

Sabon NYC Lavender Apple Hand Cream: Seriously, my ‘must have’ hand cream. Light, non-greasy and you won’t smell like a fruit cake for the rest of the day.

Munchkins Arm and Hammer Bags & Dispenser: Perfect for a soiled diaper (in case your guest gets wrapped up and accidentally leaves it in your bathroom trashcan – - who wants to smell that?), or great for transporting a messy t-shirt home post-spaghetti dinner.

Vintage-Inspired Mickey Mouse Bandaids: Never know when you’re going to need them. Boys AND girls all love Mickey — and hey, mom or dad can rock them, too.

L’Occtaine Shampoo and Conditioner Samples: You can order {free} L’Occtaine samples from their website. It’s a little treat for your guests and costs you nothing.

Angel Baby Bottom Balm: I usually kept diaper cream in my diaper bag, but inevitably whenever I was out of town, I wouldn’t have it. Having some organic, hypo-allergenic balm on hand (and I swore by this stuff when the Bug was little) is always a good idea.

Newman’s Own Organic Winter Green Mints: Go ahead. Serve the garlic. :)

Funky Plush Washcloth Set: It’s nice to have a statement piece in the basket that matches your decor but is always 100% practical. As moms, we all know how practical wash clothes are! {Especially post-meal time}.

What else would you include?

Heather is editor-in-chief of (cool) progeny. When not scouting the best in everything kid and family, you'll probably find her running The Weisse Group or adventuring around town with her daughter (the Bug) and husband. Can be won over with a good glass of wine or something homemade. Addicted to Pinterest. Only pretends to know what she's doing with her SLR, even though she's got a fantastic lens on it. Thankful it does most of the work for her.

we are modern family

Who, us? We’re putting (cool) back in to the crazy, upside down world of modern parenting. All about raising fun, fashionable, active little thinkers with a strong cuppa coffee on the side.

Takes the Cake. You may know Mary Alice from her reality tv days or from her work at Charm City Cakes, but around this little slice of internet, we adore her for her wit. We love a mom with the two must-have senses for parenthood: common sense and a sense of humor.
