make it: superhero father’s day treats

Today I am going to share two super cute, inexpensive and very easy DIY crafts you can do with the kids for Father’s Day.  The first one may require a little more mommy help, but the second one, the girls were able to do most of by themselves.

Super Hero Treat Basket

My girls think of their Daddy as their prince, their Super Hero.  It was only fitting that we make him the perfect Super Hero gift for Father’s Day.  So, we made a quick trip to Target gathered some of his favorite treats and put together our very own box of supplies from the Super Hero Supply Company.     I designed some super cute labels and below you will find a link to download everything you need to put together your very own care package.   All you need to do is print, grab a pair of scissors and some glue and you are all set.

Supplies:

  • Box or basket of your choice
  • Various treat bags-we found ours at Michaels or you can even use ziplocs
  • Your Super Heros favorite treats
  • Downloadable labels
  • Either tape or glue — or you can  print some of my labels on adhesive paper

What You Do:

Buy Dad’s favorite treats.  We used Gatorade, BBQ chips, a Hershey Bar, Nerds (he loves these) and various other munchies that we transferred to bags

Using our downloadable file, print the labels on card stock or adhesive labels

Cut out the label shapes

Adhere the labels to the bags

Tuck them all in your basket or gift box, and get ready to surprise your Super Hero on Father’s Day!  Give him the energy to fight tantrums and save the world, one meltdown at a time.

Salt Dough Paper Weight

This craft is SO easy and chances are you have most everything you need at home already.  Send the kids outside to find some pea gravel or small rocks to decorate with, get out the flour and salt and you are ready to start.

Supplies:

  • 1/4 c salt
  • 1/2 c flour
  • 1/4 c water
  • bowl
  • cookie sheet
  • some random pieces of pea gravel, pretty glass or whatever you have around the house
  • paint

What You Do:

Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

Mix flour, salt and water in a bowl.  If it’s too sticky, add just a little more flour.  Be careful not to add too much, it will make your creation crack.

Roll the dough into a bowl in your hands.  Place the ball on the cookie sheet and flatten to about 1/2″ thickness.  Select your pea gravel, rocks, or glass.  Press them gently into the soft dough.

Bake your paper weight for 2-2.5 hours until completely dry.

Remove from oven and allow to cool.

Paint and decorate!  {Optional:  You can spray with clear coat sealer.  We didn’t do this!}

Wrap up and get ready to give your Dad a gift he will cherish!

Who, us? We’re putting (cool) back in to the crazy, upside down world of modern parenting. All about raising fun, fashionable, active little thinkers with a strong cuppa coffee on the side.
