urban dweller profile: meet the chamberlains

Federal Hill is one of Baltimore’s oldest and best preserved neighborhoods with homes dating as far back as the early 1800’s. More importantly, it’s home to the Chamberlain family.  Situated on the Southwest side of the Inner harbor, Federal Hill is within walking distance of Historic Fort McHenry, and both Raven’s stadium and Oriole Park.  It is well known for its panoramic views of the Harbor, and its vibrant business district offers many local boutiques, bars, and restaurants.

I had a chance to visit with Jason, Becky, Will, Josie, & McCafferty (the kitty) to find out about urban family life in Fed Hill.

Why Federal Hill?
When we met years ago, Jason and I were already city dwellers. I moved in with him into his home in Federal Hill. We loved the area so much that we decided to plant our roots here. Our expanding family needed a larger home, but we decided to upgrade and stay in the same area– our beloved Federal Hill.

What is your favorite room for family time?
Our favorite and most used spot in the house is the den on the 3rd floor. It’s equipped with a very comfy couch and most of our children’s toys. I am still amazed that while I lounge and read books to Will at night, I can gaze out the window and see the Domino Sugar sign glowing. What a view! We also spend a lot of time on our deck grilling and chatting with our neighbors when the weather is good.

What places do you enjoy walking to with your family?
We walk to Federal Hill and Riverside Park almost daily when it’s nice outside. When it’s cold, we prefer to take advantage of our membership at the Science Center. And, of course, venturing into the downtown portion of Federal Hill is a must for the fabulous food. Nearly all the restaurants are kid-friendly before 7pm.

What activities are do you enjoy in the warmer months?
We are looking forward to Otterbein Swim Club opening this spring! The club is perfect for the hot days and picnic dinners to cool off with at night. Also, we are big Orioles fans and have season tickets– sometimes the kids tag along, and other times it’s a great date night! Overall, our family loves the Federal Hill  experience for its convenience and proximity to the Inner Harbor, stadiums, and restaurants. There is never a dull moment and endless entertainment for all members of our family!

we are modern family

Who, us? We’re putting (cool) back in to the crazy, upside down world of modern parenting. All about raising fun, fashionable, active little thinkers with a strong cuppa coffee on the side.

Takes the Cake. You may know Mary Alice from her reality tv days or from her work at Charm City Cakes, but around this little slice of internet, we adore her for her wit. We love a mom with the two must-have senses for parenthood: common sense and a sense of humor.
